Doublehelix now offers PEFC chain of custody

Increasing use of forest products makes certification all the more important.

Environmentally conscious companies have a new, home-grown choice when it comes to certification of forest products. Singapore-based Double Helix Tracking Technologies (DoubleHelix) now offers PEFC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification to companies here, and also across the Asia-Pacific region.

PEFC CoC certification shows that forest products like paper, wood flooring, furniture (or even non-timber forest products like rubber), originate from well-managed forests, and exclude material associated with conflict or land-clearance. It is a valuable tool to communicate the environmental credentials of organisations bringing such products to the market.

The PEFC claim and label is widely recognised across the world and is synonymous with sustainability. More than 20,000 companies globally benefit from the market access that PEFC Chain of Custody certification brings.

Darren Thomas, CEO of DoubleHelix says: “In Singapore, PEFC claims can mostly be found on paper products. We want to expand the adoption of PEFC CoC certification to more sectors, including furniture, interior flooring and outdoor decking, to name a few.

“We also predict a huge uptake in PEFC certification for building and construction projects, known as Project Certification. An increasing number of buildings are utilizing large amounts of wood in their structure. It’s important to show that this timber is coming from well managed, sustainable forests.”

DoubleHelix is the first company to be accredited to the PEFC scheme by the Singapore Accreditation Council (part of Enterprise Singapore). According to Thomas, “Accreditation by SAC means our service standards are recognised equally all over the world, from Singapore to Australia to Europe. SAC is a leading member of the International Accreditation Forum, which aligns well with our own international presence.”
