Bart W. van Assen – Director of Field Operations

Bart W. van Assen studied tropical forestry at Larenstein International High School and Wageningen University. He was formerly the Southeast Asian representative for the Dutch Institute for Agro-Technological Research. Later, he worked for various firms on long and short-term assignments, including the Indonesian Ecolabelling Institute (Lembaga Ekolabel Indonesia), Global Forest Watch (USA), and SBW Consultancy & Research (Netherlands). Bart has over 20 years of experience in auditing and consulting producers of key commodities in Indonesia, both for profit and non-profit enterprises. Ben holds a BSc (hons) in Agricultural Economics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and a MA in Economics from the College of Europe. He has worked for the UK Ministry of Agriculture, E D & F Man and Enron and Agrinergy a diversified consultant and developer of environmental and sustainable assets.

Darren Thomas – Executive Director

Darren was a successful senior manager for a French technology company in Europe and Asia-Pacific when he decided to change tack. In 2005 after reading What Color is your Parachute?  Darren decided to set out and find something meaningful to channel his energy and intellect into. He graduated with an MBA from the National University of Singapore in 2006 and in 2007 joined CertiSource as General Manager. As a fledgling business that was defining a new marketplace Darren successfully led the business through a major restructuring. Jonathan has worked with DoubleHelix from its inception. At the time, he ran an international branding agency as Managing Director and Partner, having grown the fledgling South East Asia business from a couple of hundred thousand dollars to two million in less than three years. In the process he won internationally recognised brands as clients and established the business as a leader in the highly competitive branding sector. He first started working with the DoubleHelix team as an advisor. Shirley Wong – Non-Executive Director

Shirley Wong is an entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in the IT industry. She co-founded Frontline Technologies Corporation Ltd in 1994 and it was listed on the Singapore Exchange in March 2001. Under her stewardship, the company grew from a team of 8 to 5000 workforce spread across 11 countries in Asia Pacific. The performance of the company caught the attention of British Telecom Global Services which subsequently acquired it. The company was renamed as BT Frontline Pte Ltd. Shirley was appointed Managing Director of BT Frontline Pte Ltd to stabilise the acquisition.
