Understanding Indonesia’s Supply Chain Opportunities: An Interview with DoubleHelix Indonesia’s General Manager

We recently spoke with Yayuk Wulandari, team leader and general manager for the Indonesian office at DoubleHelix, to find out more about her role in the company and get to know her a little better. In this interview, Yayuk shares her main objectives as head of DoubleHelix Indonesia and sheds light on the opportunities for Indonesia as a critical sourcing country.

Q: How long have you been with DoubleHelix, and where are you currently based?

I’ve been with DoubleHelix for almost 15 years, starting in 2011. I’m currently based in Surabaya, Indonesia, leading the Indonesia office.

Q: As the head of the Indonesia office, what are your main areas of focus?

My focus is on leading the overall operations of DoubleHelix Indonesia. This entails a few things, including ensuring high-quality delivery of PEFC Chain of Custody, ISCC, Green Gold Label, and emerging EUDR-related services. I also have oversight of audit coordination, quality management systems, and compliance with ISO/IEC 17065, and I collaborate with external parties to expand DoubleHelix’s reach in the Indonesian market.

Q: What does a typical week look like for you?

My time is usually divided between marketing activities, coordinating with the DoubleHelix Indonesia team, reviewing audit and verification activities, and aligning with the rest of the global team.

Yayuk

Q: Are there any projects or milestones you’ve been especially proud of recently?

Getting DoubleHelix known in the Indonesian market has been challenging; however, I have successfully established connections with related parties in the business sectors in Indonesia. There is still work to be done, but our efforts are paying off.

Q: What are some of the specific supply chain issues or themes you’re seeing in Indonesia at the moment?

One of the biggest challenges is traceability, particularly linking raw material origins to finished products in a reliable and auditable way. Especially with EUDR taking place, it’s a new challenge for Indonesia as exporters, producers and manufacturers.

Q: How do you and your team work with partners or clients on the ground?

I take a practical and collaborative approach within the team. In terms of clients or prospects, our local presence allows us to engage directly, helping bridge the gap between global standards and on-the-ground realities.

Q: In your view, what role does Indonesia play in the global push for more transparent and sustainable supply chains?

Indonesia is a critical sourcing country for timber, biomass and agricultural commodities. How Indonesia responds to global regulations will have a major impact on global supply chains. There’s an opportunity for the country to demonstrate leadership by improving transparency, strengthening legal assurance and scaling sustainable practices.

Q: What keeps you motivated in your work?

DoubleHelix is a dynamic company. While at times it can feel overwhelming, there is always something new. It is a continual learning process.

Q: When you’re not working, how do you like to unwind or spend your time?

I enjoy simple activities, spending time with family, and just staying at home!
