We had the opportunity to chat with Patricia Long, who serves as the Finance and Data Specialist at DoubleHelix, to learn more about her role and how she creates efficiency and optimisation in the DoubleHelix office.
Q: Where are you based, and how long have you been part of the DoubleHelix team?
I am based in Singapore, and have been part of the DoubleHelix team since October 2020, so 6 years now.
Q: Can you explain a little about your role as a Finance and Data Specialist?
Finance takes up a huge part of my role. From receivables to payables, I work with my colleagues and our partners to ensure that all invoices are issued and paid in a timely manner. I am also responsible for preparing our quarterly reporting to the local tax office and the DX Board of Directors. Apart from Finance, I also oversee administrative matters that are necessary for the smooth operations of the company, such as company insurance, rental of the Singapore office, and IT systems. Some of my tasks can be a little mundane over the years, so I’m constantly looking for ways to improve my efficiency.
Q: What does a typical work week look like for you?
A typical week is a mix of finance, IT, and administrative responsibilities. I might be working on financial reporting, invoicing, and budgeting, supporting IT-related tasks, or helping with day-to-day operations. During certain periods of the year, I would be involved with internal and financial audits. The variety keeps every week interesting, and I enjoy working across different areas to support the team and the organisation.
Q: What is it like working in a global team with colleagues in multiple countries?
Challenging but fulfilling. Working in a global team means working with people across different work cultures, perspectives, and expectations. Yet, it provides me with the opportunity to learn from one another, share ideas, and combine our strengths to achieve the best outcomes.
Q: Are there any projects or milestones you’ve been especially proud of recently?
In 2025, we had a huge data migration from Google to Microsoft, and I was assigned to oversee the migration project. It may appear easy as we engaged a consultant to assist with the data migration, but along the way there were some hiccups as the migration tool failed to capture our folder structure. It took much longer than we had expected for the main migration to be completed, but a huge relief when it was finally completed. Reorganisation of our documents is still in process as I look out for best practices in file collaboration and ensuring data protection.
Q: What are some of the unique challenges or opportunities of working within this industry?
Working in a small company has a lot of opportunities for personal growth. Although my role is mainly Finance and administrative work, I was given the opportunity to undergo training as an ISCC auditor as we grow our ISCC certification service in Asia. I think the possibility to grow and develop outside my main role would not be as easily achieved in a big multinational organisation.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your work?
No two days are the same. Every day presents a new challenge to solve. I like finding ways to make processes more efficient. It is not always easy but it’s always rewarding when improvements I have made have a positive impact on the team, and I enjoy those moments when a complex problem comes together with a simple solution. Working with a supportive team and management who are open to new ideas and support flexible work arrangements creates an environment where everyone is not afraid to learn and grow together.
Q: What helps you stay motivated and focused?
Knowing that my work makes a positive difference to the team. From ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting to working with my colleagues to improve a process, I enjoy contributing to outcomes that help the team and business succeed and grow.
Q: Outside of work, what keeps you busy?
Feeding family and friends. I enjoy cooking and baking and am always looking out for new interesting recipes to try out
I also love exploring the outdoors. I love travelling and am curious about other cultures and cuisines. I tend to push my limits when I travel, so I try new activities that I would not usually attempt in my country. Locally, I enjoy going for hikes and walks with friends and slowing down amongst nature.
I also enjoy guiding tourists around Singapore. I am a Singapore-licensed tourist guide and am passionate about showing my country to tourists!
