Mapping Merbau

This valuable tropical hardwood popular in Australia is mainly found from Malaysia through Indonesia to Papua New Guinea. With phase one of the map completed in 2009 this was the world's first genetic map of a species across natural forests commissioned for legality purposes.

The map has been blind tested and proven to be able to accurately determine the origin of processed, kiln dried timber products (such as decking) back to concession to around within 50km of origin.
